Meet Ji Young from Korea

Ji Young Kim has gone from  ESL student to Hunter student to IELI staff member. Along the way she met her husband and had a kid.  Read about her circuitous route.

1999: Ji Young arrives in New York City from Seoul, Korea.  She enrolls for ESL at the IELI, where she continued to study until the summer of 2000.  At the IELI, Ji Young progressed quickly through the program,  making a lot of friends in the process.  Although she originally intended to stay only 2 years in America, her plans were thwarted when she met and fell in love with one of her classmates, Hyun Woo.  A romance made in ESL heaven!!

2000: Ji Young begans life as a matriculated Hunter students majoring in Economics.  Life throws her another curve ball when she finds out she is pregnant at the end of her junior year.  She only took off one semester!  Her daughter Youn Seo is now almost four years old.

2007: Ji Young graduates from Hunter College with a BA in Economics.  Hoorah!  Despite the many language and cultural challenges she faced in an American University, Ji Young managed to make the Dean's List four times. Congratulations! While she was still an undergraduate, Ji Young got a job working in the IELI offices.  She continued to work there on Saturdays while also landing a full-time job in Financing at Fast Capital as an underwriter.

2008: Ji Young is about to start another chapter in her life.  She has decided to go back to school and get her degree in Accounting which she hopes to complete by 2010.  Unfortunately for us, this means that she will no lnonger be working in our offices.  Bummer!
