PLACEMENT TESTING AND REGISTRATION FOR THE FALL II TERM!

 Professional English Academy

Academic Skills Program
Intensive Preparation in Academic English


The Academic Skills Program's supportive and challenging environment provides intensive English instruction in the skills required for success in American college or graduate programs. This program is ideal for anyone whose goal is to apply to an English-language university.  We offer courses in the morning, afternoon,  and in the evening .

MORNING PROGRAM
Students who would like to study in the morning, study in a full-time, intensive academic class.

Full-Time Academic Classes:

In the full-time Academic program, students at the high-beginning through advanced levels take classes which focus on writing, reading, grammar and oral skills for a total of 18 Academic hours per week on 4 or 5 mornings.  (Note: students may have to attend 1 afternoon elective class per week.)

- Monday-Friday, approximately 8:10 am to 12:00 pm
-18 hours/week for 8 weeks
- Students study four skills: Writing, Reading,
  Grammar and Oral Skills
- Levels 2-8 (High-Beginner to Advanced)

AFTERNOON PROGRAM
Students who would like to study in the afternoons can choose either a full-time academic class, or, if very advanced, one to three Advanced workshops as described below:

 Full-Time Academic Classes:

In the full-time Academic program, students at the intermediate through advanced levels take classes which focus on writing, reading, grammar and oral skills for a total of 18 Academic hours per week on 4 or 5 afternoons.  (Note: students may have to attend 1 morning elective class per week.)

- Monday-Friday, approximately 1:00 to 5:00 pm
- 18 hours/week for 8 weeks
- Students study four skills:  Writing, Reading, Grammar and Oral Skills
- Levels 4-8 (Intermediate to Advanced)

 Advanced Workshops:

In the Advanced Workshops, students who have completed level 8 (the most advanced level in the regular academic program), or place high enough on the placement test, may take from one to three of the following workshops:

-Open to students who have completed level 8 (most advanced level) or students who test into the advanced level on our placement test.
-Advanced Workshop meet 9-18 Academic hours, 2 to 4 times/week for 8 weeks

 There are 3 types of advanced workshops:
1. Advanced Writing, Reading  and Grammar
2. Advanced Research and Library Skills
3. Advanced Academic Speaking Skills

EVENING PROGRAM
Students who would like to study in the evening can choose to take a full-time Academic Skills Program or anywhere from one to three classes in the skills of their choice. 

The Academic Skills Evening Program consists of the following classes:

· Understanding English Grammar
· Academic Writing
· Academic Reading, Vocabulary and Test-Taking Skills
· Communication Workshops
· TOEFL Preparation
· High Advanced Writing, Reading and Grammar 
  Workshop

Full-time Academic Skills Classes:

In the full-time Academic Skills Program, students at the Intermediate through Advanced levels take four classes which focus on writing, reading/vocabulary/test-taking skills, grammar and communication skills for a total of 18 Academic hours per week on 4 evenings. 

-  Monday through Thursday from 5:35 to 9:35 pm
- 18 hours/week for 8 weeks
- Levels 3-8 (Intermediate to Advanced)
- Students take all four courses listed above
- Students may take the TOEFL Preparation class in lieu
  of their grammar class for one term

Part-Time Academic Skills Classes:

In the part-time Academic Skills program, students can choose which classes they would like to take and can register for one to three classes on two to four evenings per week.

- Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday from 5:35 pm
  to 7:30 pm or 7:40 pm to 9:35 pm
- 4.5 to 13.5 hours/week for 8 weeks 
-  Levels 3-8 (Intermediate to Advanced)

Advanced Workshop:

The Advanced Writing, Reading and Grammar Workshop is open to students who have completed level 8 (the advanced level in the regular academic skills program), or have placed high enough on the placement test.
