Saturday Program
Our Saturday program is designed for students who would like to improve their English in all areas, but who do not have enough time to study during the week. The may choose to take either one or two classes.
Saturday classes meet in the Morning and Afternoon. Morning classes meet for 4 academic hours a week for 8 weeks. Afternoon classes meet for 3 academic hours a week for 8 weeks. There are 5 different levels. Each level takes 16 weeks to complete.
There are 2 types of courses:
1. Integrated Skills classes from 9:00 to 12:30 pm
2. Elective Workshops from 1:30 to 4:00 pm

The IELI's Saturday morning integrated skills classes focus on integrating grammar, writing, reading, vocabulary and listening/speaking skills in order to help students develop and solidify the language skills they need socially, in the workplace, for study in the future, and in everyday situations common to life in New York City. English for Success teachers use a communicative methodology that presents and practices all of these skills in conversational and written contexts.
The IELI's Saturday afternoon elective workshops offer students the opportunity to do additional work in specific skill areas that they would like to improve. Students can choose between classes which focus on pronunciation, academic writing, business English or vocabulary and idioms development among other topics. The Saturday afternoon elective workshops can be taken alone or in conjunction with the morning integrated skills classes.
(A list of current Saturday Elective Workshops, from which students may choose, is available in the IELI office and will automatically be emailed to students when they register on-line for the Saturday afternoon class.)
The classes on Saturdays are divided into 5 levels:
Beginner
High-Beginner
Intermediate
High-Intermediate
Advanced
Students must complete two terms (16 weeks) in each level in order to move up to the next level. Elective Workshops should be taken for two 8-week terms in a row in order for students to cover the entire curriculum of each workshop.
