Me Tour Guide, You Tourist

Chloe Lim introduces us to one of her favorite 'finds' in New York. Read her article to find out where to visit while In NYC studying English.

Chloe Lim

I think many international students who are studying in New York City want to go to memorable places. I would like to introduce the South Street Seaport because this is one of the most interesting places that I have visited.

I went to South Street Seaport this past summer when the sun was blazing.  It is located on Fulton Street near South Street. If you want to go via mass transit, take the 2, 3, 4, 5, J, Z, or M trains to Fulton Street.  You can also take the A or C trains to Broadway-Nassau; or E train towards Fulton Street.

There are a lot of stores in the South Street Seaport, such as clothing stores and restaurants.  The smaller shops sell products such as accessories and food.  There were a lot of food stores on the street, and I was surprised that a large cup of lemonade was just one dollar.  The funniest incident was encountering a street concert. When I crossed the street, I saw a small stage on the harbor of Pier 17. The singers were a little weird, but I was able to enjoy the concert for free!  Also, the view from Pier 17 is amazing.

I was interested in this new experience because cities in Korea do not have beautiful harbors like Pier 17.  I wish Seoul, my hometown, had a beautiful harbor.  I am sure that someone who is visiting New York from abroad will like this place, especially, in the summer. You feel separated from the rest of the city and can join a free concert at the South Street Seaport.  I promise, if you go here, you will have a wonderful memory of it.
